Wiring Claude Into Your Stack: Fourteen Connectors Worth Keeping On

Claude without connectors is working from memory. With them, it can check the live web, file the task, read last week’s meeting notes, and deploy a prototype — all in one conversation. That’s the argument behind a new roundup from Firecrawl’s Hiba Fathima (October 8, 2026), who tested her way down to the fourteen connectors she’d hand a new user, from Firecrawl and Asana to Lovable, Notion, Slack, Linear, Stripe, and Figma.

The list is useful, but the more interesting part for builders is what it says about how integrations have matured — and where the friction still lives.

Every connector is just an MCP server

Under the hood, there’s nothing exotic here. A connector is a service publishing a list of MCP tools — search, create task, read transcript — and Claude decides when to call them based on your prompt. Anthropic opened up the directory fast, and per Fathima’s own assessment, most entries are thin wrappers you install once and forget. The bar isn’t “does an MCP server exist” anymore; it’s “does this earn a permanent slot in the picker.”

Installation now has three lanes: OAuth one-click from the connector directory, pasting a remote MCP URL as a custom connector, or claude mcp add --transport http <name> <url> from the terminal in Claude Code. Some connectors are MCP Apps that return interactive UIs — tldraw renders a live drawing canvas inside the chat, not just text.

Where the time savings actually come from

The pattern across Fathima’s top picks is consistent: the winning connectors close a loop, not just a lookup. Asana’s value isn’t searching tasks — it’s the write path. Claude drafts a project with a preview before anything lands in a shared workspace, which is a sensible guardrail, though she notes Claude tends to over-generate tasks on a first pass. Lovable pushes further: Claude creates the app, sends follow-up build messages, reads the diff, and publishes the live URL without leaving the conversation.

The web-data layer sits underneath most of the others. Claude’s built-in tools return snippets and short fetches, which break down the moment you need a full page, a JavaScript-rendered pricing table, or the same data from 200 URLs. That’s the gap Firecrawl’s connector targets, and it’s a story we’ve followed before — one endpoint now reaching providers, not just pages. Through Firecrawl Alexandria, Claude can pull structured records like funding rounds directly from data providers instead of hoping a web page quoted the right number.

The tradeoffs worth knowing before you install

A few honest caveats from the roundup:

  • Credits and billing. Heavy crawls and Alexandria provider runs use credits, so large jobs need a paid plan. Some providers also require an admin to accept data terms once in the dashboard before Claude can run them.
  • Org approval friction. Asana on Claude Team requires organization-wide app approval, which isn’t available on Asana’s Starter plan — Starter teams can get stuck entirely.
  • Stability quirks. Some users have seen Asana tools briefly disappear after connector updates; a reconnect usually fixes it.

The surrounding ecosystem is also moving. On the same date, Anthropic launched Claude Dashboards in beta, building live views from platforms like BigQuery or Snowflake, and moved Docs, Slides, and Design onto every plan including Free. Connectors increasingly feed finished artifacts, not just answers.

The takeaway

The decision isn’t whether to install connectors — it’s which loops you actually close repeatedly. If your week involves reading live pages, filing tasks, and shipping prototypes, start with one connector per loop and drop the rest. If you’re evaluating a connector for a team rollout, check the approval requirements on both the Claude plan and the vendor plan first; that’s where these integrations quietly fail.
